Gaelan Starfire is a farmer now, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He’s also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Over the centuries, he’s worn many faces to hide his gift, but he is a man ill-fit for obscurity, and all too often he’s become a hero, his very names passing into legend: Acaelus Thorne, Yric the Black, Hrothan Steelbender, Tal Drakkan, Rebus Nimble.

But when Gaelan must take a job hunting down the world’s finest assassins for the beautiful courtesan-and-crimelord Gwinvere Kirena, what he finds may destroy everything he’s ever believed in.

The first (and currently only) novella by Brent Weeks. This was published by Subterranean Press (978-1-59606-415-7) in hardcover in 2011. Set in the “Night’s Angel” universe providing an origin story of Durzo Blint. Published as two separate editions (limited and lettered), this has also subsequently been made available as an eBook download. It is not available in a trade edition or from any other publisher.

Limited edition – fully bound in grey leather with a full colour cover illustration by Raymond Swanland, this was limited to just 1500 copies. Signed by the author to a special bound in signature page. There is just a single printing of this edition which is identified as such by the words ‘First Edition’ on the copyright page. Originally priced at $45 on the jacket. There are also an unknown addition number of limited edition ‘state’ books that are signed but are numbered ‘PC’ – Publishers Copy.

The Lettered edition is also fully bound in leather and is limited to just 26 copies. It is again signed by the author but I don’t have any specific pictures of this edition as I haven’t come across this in the wild – or currently online.

Due to the fact that this didn’t have a trade print-run, this is very rare. At the time of this post there are just 2 copies available of the limited edition with prices of around £160. I have yet to see a lettered edition available for sale but expect the price to be multiples of that of the limited edition if you can find it.
